Advanced Manufacturing Australia Close Their Doors

3 Jun 10

Advanced Manufacturing Australia also known as AMAus have closed their doors. Industry sources say AMAus were in an impossible financial position of having too much debt and no real way to trade out of it.

Advanced Manufacturing Australia was originally established as TIFA in 1995 and later changed its name to Tooling Australia. In 2007 AMAus unsuccessfully attempted to transform itself into a body representing not just tooling manufacturers, but all advanced manufacturers. However, the industry already has a successful industry association representing advanced manufacturers in AMTIL (www.amtil.com.au).

With the failure in recent years of Austool and now Advanced Manufacturing Australia this leaves the tooling industry without representation. Industry representation by an ethical organisation with the true industry at heart is critical for the promotion of the tooling industry in this very competitive global industry.

It is hoped that a new industry representative will emerge before long. Until then, AMTIL in collaboration with ManufactureLink continue as the peak organisations representing the advanced manufacturing industry. The ManufactureLink network boasts more than 100 of Australia's finest toolmakers covering every type of tooling imaginable.
