Australian Defence Industry Capability to Help Companies
14 Sep 08
The DMO has briefed industry on the implementation of the Australia Industry Capability (AIC) program.
DMO’s Director of Industry Policy Management Eddie Ho told industry representatives in Brisbane that the reason for having AIC planning is to make sure opportunities for Australian industry were maximised, both in acquisition and sustainment.
“What we want is open and transparent supply chain opportunities for Australian companies,” Mr Ho said.
Under the AIC program, tenderers for contracts worth $50 million or more will be required to provide an AIC plan, including details such as relevant priority local industry capabilities, project-specific industry capability requirements, a commercial opportunities program proposal, and an Australian industry capability requirements schedule.
While the program aims to promote local industry involvement in Defence projects, Mr Ho emphasised that Australian companies must have the capability, capacity and relevant accreditation in order to contribute to supply chains.
Mr Ho said AIC policy is not “set in concrete” and may be changed following the release of the Defence White Paper, and to incorporate industry feedback and process improvements.
