Non-Ferrous Forging Manufacturer to Close Down
1 Dec 09
The Manufacturing Workers Union says a Melbourne metal parts maker has gone into receivership, leaving 57 employees without their entitlements.
The union says workers at Forgecast in Mitcham have lost their jobs and will not receive their redundancy pay.
"The workers were told a few days ago that a receiver had been called in," said Steve Dargarvel, the union's state secretary.
"The receiver was looking at whether or not the business could trade out or whether or not it could be sold to another party.
"That wasn't possible, so a decision has been taken to appoint a liquidator," he said.
According to the union, some of the workers have been with the company for more than 35 years.
