Pratt & Whitney awarded a purchase order to South Australian precision engineering company Levett Engineering to begin manufacturing second- and third-stage turbine vane transfer tubes and covers for all variants of the F135 engine powering the F-35 Lightning II.
The second and third stage turbine vane tubes and covers transfer air from the turbine vane to the rotor compartment, providing cooling air to the turbine disks and blades.
The agreement has a potential value of more than US$23 million over the life of the F-35 program.
“Levett Engineering has proven its dedication to this program by providing Pratt & Whitney with world class, affordable, precision machining capability in Australia,” Bill Gostic, vice president of Pratt & Whitney F135 engine programs, said.
“We look forward to a long working relationship with Levett Engineering as a valuable partner in Pratt & Whitney’s global supply base for the F135 engine.”
“We are delighted to have been given the opportunity to be involved in this exciting program,” Paul Levett, managing director of Levett Engineering, said.
“To be working with a company such as Pratt & Whitney is truly a great step forward for us, and one that we are looking to develop into a relationship that will last for many years to come.”
