Medical Industry Association of Australia Changes its Name

The
Medical Industry Association of Australia (MIAA) has changed its name
to Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA) to better reflect
the association's membership and its role in the healthcare system.
"Our
members supply approximately 90% of the non-pharmaceutical products
used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease and disability in
Australia and our new name better reflects this key function" said Anne
Trimmer, MTAA CEO.
The range of medical technology is diverse
with products ranging from familiar items such as syringes and wound
dressings, through to high-technology implanted devices such as
pacemakers, defibrillators, hip and other orthopaedic implants.
Products
also include hospital/surgical equipment, diagnostic imaging equipment
such as ultrasounds and magnetic resonance imaging machines, as well as
diagnostic (pathology) tests that detect disease.
Our members
also play a vital role in providing healthcare professionals with
essential education and training to ensure safe and effective use of
medical technology.
"Medical technology has an essential role in
managing the health of Australians and is relied upon to alleviate
pain, injury and handicap.
Our new name will better assist us
position ourselves in the health environment to ensure Australian
patients have equity and access to the most appropriate medical
technology" Ms Trimmer concluded.
