3 Mar 08
The successful delivery of the first of the Stage 5 components for the F135 Joint Strike Fighter engine from Production Parts was accepted by Pratt & Whitney at a First Article Inspection (FAI) Ceremony held recently in Melbourne.
In addition to their current contract to manufacture bearing housing supports for Pratt & Whitney, Production Parts also manufactures the F135's high turbine supports.
The decision to place these contracts with Production Parts was based on their demonstrated experience, precision machining capabilities, and a reputation for quality, making them key assets to the F135 program.
Pratt & Whitney say they are committed to growing international participation in the F135 program by identifying best value sourcing opportunities in JSF partner nations.
The global aircraft manufacturing company said they have are delighted with the progressProduction Parts has made to date, and this has resulted in further opportunities for the family owned company to make similar parts for the F100 and PW6000 engine families.
Production Parts said becoming a supplier for non-F135 product lines truly positions the company as a supplier of choice in a global supply base.
The company joins more than 35 global companies in the eight JSF partner nations.
Managing Director of Production Parts, Peter Nicholls said this was undoubtedly a great achievement, not only for a family owned company, but also the Australian defence and aerospace industry.
"In order to meet growing demand we will more than double our output over the next three years.
"With increased efficiency, especially through the installation of our new Deckel Maho DMU 80 FD full five axis machine, we will employ an additional fifty skilled personnel, bring export dollars to our community and continue to up-skill our workforce to ensure that we remain a leader in the global aerospace arena”.
