Outstanding engineers honoured at Warren Centre Innovation Awards

The Warren Centre's Innovation Hero Awards to recognise Australia's most creative and inspirational engineers have been announced. The awards are given for outstanding Australian innovations in engineering technology, and recognise people who bring great ideas to life, and the role they play in driving economic and social progress. They are made to Australian-based people or teams that successfully develop a new technology into a commercial product or service and who create great benefit for Australia.
In 2010 the Innovation Heroes were:
Dr Simon Poole and Dr Steven Frisken, entrepreneurs in the area of optical communications and instrumentation who have achieved worldwide success as Finisar Australia.
Professor Gernot Heiser from Open Kernel Labs, a computer operating systems research group, whose product the L4 microkernel, is used in more than 500 million mobile phones.
Alexander Gosling, co-founder, Director and Chief Executive of Invetech, a company focused on product development through the innovative use of technology.
Dr Bob Johnson, who pioneered Maptek's innovative software technology & laser imaging hardware for the mining industry, achieving worldwide success.
Neil O'Sullivan and team from NOJA Power for or the design and commercialisation of leading edge switchgear which eliminates sulfur hexafluoride, a severe greenhouse gas, resulting in significant environmental benefits.
