Centrifugal casting can have more than one meaning. One process is used to produce cylindrical components. This process works by rotating a cylindrical mould and pouring the molten metal into the centre. The metal is spun out to the outer walls of the cavity and forms the cylindrical shape. Castings made this way such as bronze bushes have a higher density than conventional casting processes.
The other centrifugal casting methods involve arranging individual mould cavities of any shape around a shaft to be rotated. When rotated, the centrifugal casting action results in castings of a higher density and strength that those made by conventional means.
