Ceramic firing is the process of 'curing' a green ceramic ready for use. In many ceramic manufacturing processes, the ceramic is injected, extruded, pressed, machined and formed into shape as a powder containing a binder.
Once formed into the final shape, the ceramic is fired which removes the binder and bonds the ceramic in a process similar to sintering. The component typically shrinks slightly at a known rate during firing much like mould shrinkage.
