Casting Processes - Die Casting or Diecasting

Die casting is the process of pouring molten metal into a permanent mould to produce a high quality casting having superior accuracy and surface finish to sand cast components. Die Casting is typically used for casting non-ferrous materials as in aluminium casting, brass casting, bronze casting, magnesium casting, and zinc casting.

Die casting moulds are more expensive than other methods of casting, but the mould will last many thousands or even millions of parts and will consistently achieve high levels of accuracy and surface finish. Moulds are usually made from cast iron or alloy tool steels and incorporate the runner and riser system for pouring in the metal and excluding air.
