Wire coils can be wound on high speed, computer controlled machines for fast, accurate coil production. Various shapes can be produced by using different bobbins. Coils can be set in the final shape by using wire coated in a bonding adhesive which is activated using slight heat. Coils can also be encapulated and insulated by settign them in a potting compound. For softer coils the shape can be held together using tape.
Wound coils are typically used in the manufacture of transformers, motors and stators.
