Metal Forging - Press Forging, Squeeze Forging

Register a free buyer account to lodge a Request For Quote for press forging and receive quotes online.

In press forging, a slow squeezing action is used to form the metal. The slow squeezing action penetrates the entire workpiece, making possible the forging of large objects. Press forges are made in sizes exceeding 50,000 ton capacity. Those up to 10,000 ton capacity may be either mechanically or hydraulically operated, but the larger presses are hydraulically powered.

Press forging may be either open or closed dies. Open dies are often simply flat surfaces between which the metal is squeezed, but they may also be V-shaped or slightly convex. Small parts are often forged in closed dies in one stroke. Larger parts may require one or more additional strokes. Large objects such as railroad wheels, spars for aircraft wings, and aircraft landing gear beams are press forged.
