Drop Hammer metal stamping is the manufacturing process whereby a metal stamping die or a set of metal stamping dies is used to form sheet metal metal blanks into a three dimensional shape with the energy supplied by a falling weight or hammer. Less used these days due to advances in press brakes, drop hammer metal stamping is sometimes used by a variety of industries such as automotive and applicance.
Drop hammer metal stamping differs from conventional metal stamping in that steam or hydraulics are used to raise a heavy hammer which is then dropped onto the punch to form the part under gravitational forces.
