Embossing is a metal forming process used to press shapes, features and patterns into the surface of a metal or non-metal part. The embossing process can be as simple as pressing a small stamp into the surface of the work piece, or as complex as patterning the entire surface of a component with finely detailed designs.
Another form of embossing: roll embossing is used for producing raised or sunken designs or relief in sheet material by means of matched male and female roller dies, theoretically with no change in metal thickness, or by passing sheet or a strip of metal between rolls of the desired pattern.
With roll embossing of patterns and designs, a sheet of material is drawn through the male and female roller dies producing the pattern or design on the sheet. Depending on the roller dies used, different patterns can be produced on the one sheet at the same time.
