Plastic Moulding Processes - Bonding Rubber to Metal, Urethane Bonding

Login to get an online quote for bonding rubber to metal or conduct an advanced search of our network.

Rubber to metal bonding refers to processes through which rubber is adhered to a metal substrate. The metal gives the rubber enough stiffness so the part can be mounted. Rubber provides the metal with elasticity and damping properties. The rubber can be both adhered or moulded to a metal piece. Before the moulding takes place, the metal is prepared by degreasing, sandblasting or shot blasting, in order to completely free the surface from rust and other impurities. A bonding agent is then sprayed onto the piece of metal. After drying, the rubber is placed into the mould for forming and curing.

The bonding rubber to metal process is used to manufacture anti-vibration mounts, engine mounts, isolators, cushioning dampers, flexible couplings, harmonic balancers, press tool ejectors, conveyor cleaners, squeegees or anywhere a rubber moulding is required with a metal mount or housing. The bonding rubber to metal process is also used to put rubber or urethane linings onto pumps, tubes and other equipment as an abrasive resistant lining.
