Plastic Moulding - Reaction Injection Moulding (RIM), Large Plastic Moulding

Login to get an online quote for reaction injection moulding or conduct an advanced search of our network.

Reaction Injection Moulding (RIM) is a two liquids component system that is injected into a mould where the mixing and it's chemical reaction forms a thermoset polyurethane polymer part. RIM combines the efficiency of a moulding with the advances in polymer chemistry

The inherent advantages of Reaction Injection Moulding replace many traditional materials. RIM favours large parts, wall thickness variations, encapsulation, dimensional stability, chemical resistance, weatherability, surface reproducibility and in-mold painting.

The reactive polymer resins such as polyols, isocyanates, polyurethanes, and polyamides provide fast reaction moulding cycles well suited for automotive and furniture applications. Reaction Injection Moulding is suited to large parts including automotive bumpers, fender and panel components, appliance housings, furniture components, aircraft panels and caravan walls. When short fibers or flakes are used, this can produce a more isotropic product, the process is called Reinforced Reaction Injection Moulding (RRIM). Many hybrids such as polyurethane/urea, polyurethane/polyester hybrid systems are currently being used as well as those for RIM already mentioned.
