Plastic Moulding - Rotational Moulding or Rota Moulding

Register a free buyer account to submit an online Request For Quote for rotation molding and receive your quotes online - fast.

Rotation moulding is the moulding process where the heated mould is rotated as the polymer is introduced in powder form. The rotation action forces the powdered plastic out against the hot wall of the die where it melts together. For parts that are not completely enclosed, the 'rock and roll' method to agitate the moulding tool can be used.

Although the name suggests the parts need to be circular in shape, this is not the case and a wide variety of shapes can be produced using this process. One of the key advantages of rotational molding is the elimination of the need for cores to produce the cavity which results in reduced tooling costs.

Another advantage of rota moulding is the ability to completely enclose an air space without any secondary operations.

Some application examples for rotational moulding are plastic inflatable soccer balls, water tanks, equipment cases, underground service access pits, pump housings, electrical housings, equipment panels, plastic seats, fishing floats, ute tray liners, wheelie bins and childrens park play apparatus.
