Pressure vessel welding is a specialist welding field with high demands on quality results. Pressure vessel welding is the description given to the process of welding vessels and chambers used for the storage of materials, gases and fluids either under pressure or under vacuum. Welds are required to withstand the forces associated with the stresses incurred from pressurising the vessel. Welds that leak through either pin holes or larger holes, and welds that fail under stress present a serious safety risk to the general public and thus pressure vessel welding is usually regulated and certified by regulatory bodies. Welders must be certified to carry out pressure vessel welding and the completed vessel itself typically must be tested to a pressure well beyond its design pressure to ensure the integrity of the construction.
