For higher volume production, many sheet metal processes can be carried out on a CNC machine for lower cost and higher repeatability.
With CNC turret punching, the material is automatically fed into the CNC turret punching machine and positioned very accurately under the punch. The CNC turret punch can be loaded with an array of different tools which are changed automatically by the tool changer. The CNC turret punching machine is programmed to very quickly perform all the punching operations on the work piece including creating cut outs, holes, slots, ventilation grilles and louvres.
With CNC sheet metal folding, the operation is much the same except the metal is automatically fed to sets of folding beams. Folds are automatically imparted having accurate angles and bend radii.
Some more advanced machines combine the CNC punching and/or CNC folding operations together with laser or plasma cutting to enable complete manufacturing of sheet metal components in the one versatile machine.
