Sheet metal can be cut down to a narrower size from a coil or sheet by passing it through slitting rolls. Often in production setups, a coil may be slit into multiple strips in the one pass using a multiple set of slitting rolls in the one machine.
When coil slitting, the slit material is usually either fed directly into the straightening rolls, metal forming machine or re-coiled back onto a reel to be stored for subsequent operations later.
