Gluing and bonding is a method used for joining and assembling a wide variety of components. Adhesives used in bonding processes are numerous and varied. Some of the basic types include instant adhesives, 2 part epoxies, ultraviolet light cured adhesives, heat cured epoxies, single part adhesives, adhesive tapes, epoxy tapes, silicon/rubber sealants and solvent cements.
Adhesives can be used to permanently bond components together, sealing applications, encapsulating applications, tacking components for other assembly operations, insulation of electrical connections, and void filling to name just a few uses.
Adhesives can bond almost any material and are particularly useful for delicate assembly operations or applications where other joining methods are not possible. Depending on the adhesive used, bonding can be almost instant or bonding time can be controlled to give sufficient time for the assembly operation. Adhesive dispensing and application can readily be automated and together with the excellent speed of bonding making it a useful process for automated assembly operations.
