3D scanning converts real objects into computer data that is three-dimensional. Using 3D computer modelling programs, 3D-scanned objects can be rotated and manipulated on a computer screen.
Our world is three dimensional. We understand things faster if we see it. 3D scanning allows people to create faster, analyse faster and with fewer mistakes.
Almost anything can be 3D scanned. Examples of objects that can be 3D scanned include large buildings, open cut mines, cars, people, consumer products, manufacturing tooling, toys, museum artefacts, archaeological sites, statues, sculptures and body organs.
Once an object has been 3D scanned the 3D computer model can be converted into industry standard computer formats. The files can be viewed and manipulated in a variety of different programs.
