Coating and Plating Processes - Industrial Hardchrome Plating, Hardchrome Repairs
Hardchrome is the process of electroplating chromium onto the surface of steel typically to provide a smooth, corrosion resistant layer. The hardchromed surface is normally ground and polished to facilitate the running of seals on the surface. Hardchrome is so named due the its property of being much harder than decorative chrome. Hardchromed surfaces can be up to approximately 60 RC.
Some of the most common applications for hardchroming is the finishing of hydraulic cylinder rods, pneumatic cylinder rods, shock absorber struts, rotary seal surfaces, hydrailic valve spools, steering racks, mono pump shafts and the repair of worn or corroded seal and bearing surfaces.
