Laser cladding uses a laser beam to weld material onto the surface of a component to be repaired or to add a hard wearing surface. The laser cladding process imparts a very small heat affected zone and as such does not alter the metallurgy of the parent metal. Laser cladding is particularly useful for repair of difficult to weld components such as high tensile drive axles and turbine blades.
