Finishing and Processing Services - Micro Polishing, Microfinishing

Micro-polishing or microfinishing is the process of polishing a surface to a finish within micrometer or nanometer tolerances. Micro-polishing takes up where conventional metal polishing processes finish. The micro-finish is imparted using techniques such as walnut shell blasting, lapping, micro-honing, and the use of very fine industrial rouge, lapping compounds and metal polishes.

Micropolishing or micro-finishing is typically used to polish surfaces, bearing journals and radii to reduce friction and wear in a bearing application. Surfaces are also micro-polished to reduce surface imperfections and stresses thus increasing strength and cracking or fatigue resistance of a component.

Microfinishing is also used where extreme accuracy is required for applications such as scientific instrumentation and measuring equipment.
