Finishing and Processing Services - Vibration Polishing or Ultrasonic Polishing
Vibration polishing, vibratory polishing or ultrasonic polishing is a mass finishing process used to polish a large number of parts in a short period of time, or to polish delicate parts too difficult to handle. There are several versions or applications for this technology.
The first is in finishing of delicate parts or finely details components. Delicate or micro-parts are loaded into the machine along with a powder-like abrasive polishing medium. The ultrasonic or vibratory action of the machine moves the abrasive media across the surface of the parts and polishes them. This process is very common with jewellery manufacturers and swiss turned part manufacturers. A variation on these types of machines are magnetic finishing machines which use a magnetic field to keep the abrasive media on the surface of the parts. Another application is for polishing molding tool cavities. In this process the cavity itself is filled with the abrasive media and the tool itself is vibrated, typically with an ultrasonic action. The movement of the abrasive media in the cavity polishes the tool.
Yet another type of ultrasonic polishing is with the familiar hand held ultrasonic polishers. These are used by toolmakers to polish tools, dentists to polish teeth, jewellers to finish jewellery and more.
